In Our Home {A Client Project}

I received an email a short time ago from a wonderful lady, Laura, who had a frame she really liked but had redecorated her home and it didn't fit anymore. She requested we paint the frame and add a new graphic. Today I'm showing off the newly painted frame and stenciled graphic.

Laura is a customer at Caledonia Vintage Marketplace where our booth is located. When she originally emailed me, she explained what she was looking to have done and then she said something that I thought was pretty cool. She told me she wanted me to paint it in an "On a Whim style." I'd never really thought about us having our own style before, so I was feeling pretty good about that comment. :)

Laura gave me a swatch from the fabric she now has in her room. Using the colors from the swatch, and with the info that the wall this would be going on was a light beige, I showed her a mock up of the paint colors. I ended up using, from the outside in, Vintage White, Coco, Destin Gulf Green, a combination of Saddle and Coral from American paint Company (with a little bit of a red-orange acrylic thrown over that), and then Destin Gulf again. The colors match and compliment her swatch very well.
After getting the paint just so, I used a dry brush and went back over the coco to distress the edges of that great pattern on the frame. Then I waxed the entire piece with clear.

For the graphic, I painted a piece of drop cloth with Graphite. Laura had mentioned at first that she may want a chalkboard in the frame but she decided to go with a phrase instead. I chose to give her graphic the appearance of a chalkboard so she could have the best of both worlds!
Here is a close up of the Vintage White lettering on the Graphite drop cloth.

From a distance, it has the appearance of a chalkboard.
I just love the way this turned out. I love it so much that I'm thinking of making a replica. The colors are really beautiful together!
